Anjuman-e-Ghamkhwaran-e-Abbas (AGA) was founded by Syed Ali Zia Rizvi in Karachi, Pakistan in 1964. In 1998, Ali Zia Rizvi, Wasi Haider Zaidi, Sajjad Haider Zaidi, Dr. Mehdi Abedi, Hasan Afroz Mirza and Shaji Ali Mirza joined hands to form the Anjuman in Atlanta, GA that eventually led to the creation of Dar-e ‘Abbas. Anjuman-e-Ghamkhwaran-e-Abbas is famous the world over, especially in United States and Pakistan, for Nohakhwani and Matamdari. Anjuman-e-Ghamkhwaran-e-Abbas is primarily responsible for the management and administration of our Imambargah Dar-e ‘Abbas in Atlanta. To that end, an elected Management Committee works tirelessly to not only serve the Imambargah, but also our community. Additionally, we have multiple volunteers who donate their time, money and energy to achieve our common goal, i.e. Azadari-e-Mazloom-e-Karbala.
Anjuman-e-Ghamkhwaran-e-Abbas Management Committee comprises of Trusties/Patrons, elected for 7 years; and Office Bearers, elected for 2 years. In order to be a Patron or Office Bearer, an individual needs to be a legal US resident, a paid member of our Anjuman for 5 years, with at least 75% attendance in all programs. There’s no limit to the terms of an elected official. Additionally, the Anjuman has a General Body, comprising of all the members. The General Body is required to meet at least once a year, preferably twice a year, in order to review the state of the Imambargah and Anujuman; and to make any amendments to the constitution.
